CCAI Nevada Neighbors Talk by Tom Lundberg

On Tuesday, September 30, the Capital City Arts Initiative [CCAI] will present a talk by artist Tom Lundberg. His illustrated talk, “The Language of Textiles: Fiber in Contemporary Art” is the next in CCAI’s Nevada Neighbors series. The talk will take place at 7pm at the BRIC, 108 E Proctor St, Carson City. There will be an informal reception for Mr. Lundberg preceding the event at 6:15pm. The presentation and reception are free, and the public is cordially invited.Lundberg-studio9 copy

In his talk, Tom Lundberg will discuss contemporary art made with a wide variety of fiber media. He will show how concepts take form in textile materials and methods in this survey of artists who stitch, print, dye, and weave.

Tom Lundberg lives in Fort Collins, Colorado, where he is professor of art at Colorado State University. He coordinates graduate and undergraduate programs in fibers, and teaches courses in weaving and surface design. Lundberg has lectured and taught workshops in the United States, England, and New Zealand and teaches in Colorado State University’s Italy study-abroad program.

snc-studentsLundberg began his university studies at Iowa State University. Following an apprenticeship with potter Clary Illian, he completed his BFA in painting at the University of Iowa, where he also studied textiles with Naomi Schedl. Lundberg received his MFA from Indiana University, in the textiles program directed by Budd Stalnaker and Joan Sterrenburg. As a graduate student, he also worked with Diane and William Itter.

His work is currently on view in the traveling exhibition Innovators & Legends: Generations in Textiles & Fiber.

lundberg-dhs-facultyAs part of his CCAI visit, Mr. Lundberg will give his Nevada Neighbors talk to art students and faculty at Douglas High School and at Sierra Nevada College.

The Capital City Arts Initiative is an artist-centered organization committed to the encouragement and support of artists and the arts and culture of Carson City and the surrounding region. The Initiative is committed to community building for the area’s diverse adult and youth populations through art projects and exhibitions, live events, arts education programs, artist residencies, and online projects.

The Carson City Library co-sponsors the Nevada Neighbors series with CCAI.
