Sarah Lillegard: Natural Dye Introduction

Lillegard-portraitOn Tuesday, March 30, 2015, the Capital City Arts Initiative [CCAI] and the Nevada Arts Council will present a workshop by artist Sarah Lillegard. Her workshop, Natural Dye Introduction is next in SENart series and will take place Monday, March 30, 3:30 – 5pm at the Nevada State Legislature, Room 3100, 401 S Carson Street, Carson City. The presentation is free, and the public is cordially invited.

Reno-based artist Sarah Lillegard is a mixed media artist whose work draws on the traditions of handcrafts and western iconography. Hailing from a family of quilters and craftsmen, her artistic process relies on tactility and the physicality of art-making utilizing a variety of materials including wool, denim, leather, and thread. In her workshop, Natural Dye Introduction, Lillegard will demonstrate the simple and safe processes she uses to dye fibers with natural materials easily harvested in Nevada backyards.

The Work of Artists 2015 features a series of talks and demonstrations with some of northern Nevada’s finest folk, traditional, and sarah-stringscontemporary artists. The series, a collaboration of the Nevada Arts Council, SENarts, and the Capital City Arts Initiative [CCAI], connects artists with community members and those working in and visiting the Nevada State Legislative Building through interactive and engaging activities. All Work of Artists presentations are free and open to the public.

The Nevada Arts Council’s OXS Gallery presents, Second Skin, an exhibition of Ms. Lillegard’s work from February 2 – April 17, 2015. The OXS Gallery is located in the NAC offices, 716 N. Carson Street, Suite A, Carson City, and is open to the public Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm.
