What Up? Young Northern Nevada Artists at Carson City Courthouse

Capital City Arts Initiative launches its 2005-2006 exhibition season at the Carson City Courthouse gallery with “What Up?,” an exhibition of work by some of northern Nevada’s most exciting young artists.

The exhibition opens with a public reception for the artists on Thursday, September 29 at the Carson City Courthouse Gallery from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Admission is free and the public is cordially invited. The Courthouse is located at 885 East Musser Street in Carson City.

What Up? presents a diverse and dynamic range of local contemporary production. Artists include Erik Burke, Jeff Erickson, Amber Gutry, Jake Lee-High, Toni Ortega, and Nick van Woert.

The artists work in an impressive range of traditional and non-traditional media, from Amber Gutry, a photographer, to Erik Burke who is best known for his work in public space. In both subject matter and form, the artists demonstrate a fierce commitment to trail-blazing production.

“We are excited to showcase the talents of this new wave of innovative young artists,” comments CCAI Associate Program Director Melanie Berner. CCAI Director Sharon Rosse adds" "The quality of the work is evidence of the vitality of the local northern Nevada art scene."

The opening reception will feature a live music mix by of Reno’s DJ Andrew. Best know for his shows at Satellite, a Reno night spot, his sets feature a range of genres, from funk and hip-hop to punk, soul and hard rock.

The Capital City Arts Initiative is an artist-centered organization committed to the encouragement and support of artists and the arts and culture of Carson City and the surrounding region through community building and public programs. Its activities include contemporary art exhibitions, live events and arts education programs for the area’s diverse adult and youth populations.
