FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

"The Heart of the Quandary"
Multimedia works by Ellie Honl

"The Heart of the Quandary" an exhibition of multimedia work by artist Ellie Honl, is the first 2009 exhibition at CCAI's Courthouse Gallery.

An artist reception for the exhibition will take place on Friday, February 6th from five to seven p.m. The gallery, located at 885 East Musser Street in Carson City. Admission is free and the public is cordially invited.

A product of the Heartland, Ms. Honl is a native of Stevens Point, Wisconsin. She graduated from St. Olaf College with a bachelor's degree in studio art in 2003, and completed her M.F.A. in May 2008 from the prestigious printmaking program of The University of Iowa School of Art and Art History.

The artist combines printmaking, painting, photography, and video. At the core of her fanciful and exquisitely elegant artworks one finds a complex, challenging center. She comments: "My recent work has been inspired by my explorations of psychological disorders and how they affect people's perceptions of reality. Depression and anxiety cause people to perceive things differently – usually to their detriment. Innocuous objects or situations can suddenly seem dangerous. A joyous day can turn gloomy. Confusion reigns."

In a phone interview for "The Conversation," a regular feature of "CCAI Radio," a new online media project for CCAI, Ms. Honl talks more about her process and motivation. Visitors are invited to tune in at radioccai.blogspot.com.

The CCAI Courthouse Gallery is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m to 5 p.m. The exhibition runs through May 29th.
