Erik Burke, CCAI CAP Artist |
|
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Art in public will be the focus of CCAI's 2006-2007 season. During the year "CAP" will present a diverse range of public projects in northern Nevada and online. Mr. Burke often represents local people in his murals while involving them in their production. He comments, “In a world that fixates on celebrity, and monumentalizes glamour, I try to do the opposite by focusing on the unsung heroes of everyday life.” The artist received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2005. He currently lives in Sacramento. His murals are a prominent feature of northern Nevada urban landscape, and his work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including the CCAI's fall 2005 exhibition "What Up?" The Capital City Arts Initiative is an artist-centered organization committed to the encouragement and support of artists and the arts and culture of Carson City and the surrounding region. The Initiative is committed to community building for the area's diverse adult and youth populations through art exhibitions, live events, arts education programs, artist residencies, and its web site. CCAI is funded in part by the Carson City Redevelopment Authority; the Nevada Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts; The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts; the Gannett Foundation; the James W. Calhoun Foundation; U.S. Bank; Gayle Crowell; Western Nevada Community College Foundation; Carson High School; Carson Valley Veterinary Hospital; Carson City Library; Nevada Hispanic Services-Carson City; CCAI's Board of Directors; BrAG, CCAI's 'Brilliant Advisory Group;' and CCAI's growing membership.
