Caffeine!
Digital Media Works by CCAI Artist In Residence Ginger Bruner at
Comma Coffee
The
Capital City Arts Initiative's Caffeine! Gallery, located in Comma
Coffee, will present an exhibition of digital media during December
by its 2004-2005 artist in residence Las Vegas artist Ginger Bruner.
There will be a reception for the exhibition on Friday, December 10 from
5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Comma Coffee is located at 312 Carson Street across from the State Legislature
Building. The exhibition and reception are free and the public is cordially
invited.
The
exhibition at Caffeine! features selected works from the artist's "Fremont
Suite,""Vegas on the Tiber" and "Sky
Suite" series,
printed on large vinyl and canvas scrolls. "As a lifelong Las Vegan," comments
Ms. Bruner,"I have been surrounded by two kinds of color: the delicate
hues of the desert, and the impossibly saturated tones of neon. Both are
very important to me in my work and my life."
Ms. Bruner is CCAI's second artist participating in the organization's
Artist In Residence Program, funded in part by a grant from the Nevada
Arts Council.
Over the next few months, she will work with local artists, musicians and civic
organizations on a broad range of projects, producing artworks and radio spots
based on her CCAI experience.
Ms. Bruner, a Las Vegas native, grew up in a neighborhood of professional musicians,
which strongly influenced her decision to join their ranks, She first picked
up a trombone at the age of 9 followed by the tuba at 11. She graduated with
a B.A. in tuba performance from UNLV. Ms. Bruner then worked as an on-air host,
engineer and producer for KNPR Las Vegas Public Radio for seventeen years.
She is now a full-time musician and music producer/engineer while continuing
her
active visual arts practice.
Caffeine! is a project sponsored by Comma Coffee and the Capital City Arts
Initiative. Caffeine! presents month-long exhibitions of work by Nevada artists.
Artists interested in showing at Caffeine! are encouraged to pick up an information
sheet at Comma Coffee.
