Exhibition in the Crowell Board Room
Inspired by landscapes and the endless details within, James McCarthy’s photography exhibition presents innovative compositions in his exhibition, Alignment, with the Capital City Arts Initiative.
McCarthy’s show will be in the Community Center’s Crowell Board Room, from Tuesday, July 5 through October 20, 2022. The Community Center is located at 851 E William Street, Carson City. The Crowell Board Room is open for all the city’s public meetings; check the city’s meeting calendar here: http://www.carson.org/government/city-meetings/calendar.
McCarthy says, “Photography has always had a hidden crush on me.” As a self-taught explorer in the field of landscape photography, he combines his passion for the camera with his delight in the outdoor world. He began as a photographer using a hand-me-down Minolta SLR 35mm camera; he now uses a Nikon Z7ii. For final presentation of a piece, he makes choices on paper, composition, and framing. This exhibit will portray McCarthy’s artistic development over the past ten years. His artistic influencers include: Ansel Adams, Carleton Watkins, Bobby Wheat, Charlie Waite, Parvez S, and Ralph Gibson.
McCarthy’s more popular pieces include, “Never Ending Story”, “Once Afloat”, “Emigrants Fog”, “Bonsai Zen, “Keep Tahoe Cold” and “Snowy Pines”. McCarthy has a talent for selecting photogenic items within landscapes thus creating portraits rather than extensive vistas.
A Massachusetts native, McCarthy traveled West in the 1980s, and has lived in Nevada for nearly 30 years. He is a member of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA), the American Photographic Artists (APA) and founding member of LoveOutside.Org, an upcoming collaborative group of outdoor photographers preserving the world around us through creative and every-day imagery. He attended the University of Nevada, Reno, and lives in Carson City. https://jmgalleries.com
