Art from Walking
CCAI Nevada Neighbors Talk by Emily Silver

The Capital City Arts Initiative [CCAI] will present a talk by artist Emily Silver on Wednesday, October 29,ESilverPhoto ESilverPhoto7pm. Her illustrated talk, “Art From Walking” is the next event in CCAI’s Nevada Neighbors series. The talk will take place at the BRIC, 108 E Proctor St, Carson City. At 6:15pm, there will be an informal reception for Ms. Silver preceding the talk. The presentation and reception are free, and the public is cordially invited.

Silver’s landscape-based watercolor paintings reflect her deep personal connection to the Great Basin desert landscape and geography. As a former Gardnerville, Nevada resident, she returns to the high desert to describe how a strong sense of place influences her work more now that she lives on the Pacific coast. Her desire to describe perceptions, illusions, and emotions associated with specific places and particular moments guides her painting practice. Silver’s talk is a companion event to her CCAI residency in summer 2015.

Raised in Colorado, Emily Silver earned her MFA in Painting at San Francisco Art Institute (2007) and her BA With Distinction in Studio Art at Stanford University (1973). Her exhibition history includes solo shows at The Springs Preserve in Las Vegas, Metro Gallery in Reno, The Painting Center in New York, Morris Graves Museum of Art in Eureka, California, and Fort Mason in San Francisco.

ESilver#4WeatherPortentWeatherSilver currently lives and maintains a studio in Ferndale, California, teaches Drawing and Watercolor at College of the Redwoods, and spends as much time as possible in the Great Basin.

As part of her CCAI visit, Ms. Silver will give her talk to art students and faculty at Douglas High School and at Sierra Nevada College.
