Exhibition in CCAI’s Student Gallery
Thirty-six students from Carson, Dayton, Douglas, and Pioneer high schools have their work in Spring
Forward 2023 art exhibition at the Brick. This delightful exhibit presents an array of imaginative projects based on students’ years of classroom study and their amazing craftsmanship.
Spring Forward 2023, a Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) student show is in the Community Development Building (the Brick), 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City, now through May 12, 2023. The Brick is open to the public, M-F, 8am – noon, 1-4pm. CCAI will host a reception for the artists on Thursday, April 13, 5-6pm and will announce the Aim Scholarship winner during the reception. Spring Forward 2023, includes a variety of art media including ceramics, drawing, painting, and mixed media.
Pioneer Academy’s participating students are Mason Dey, Savannah Garcia, Faith Key, Maggie Uzzell, and Debbie Uzzell. They worked with teacher Paul Lorion.
Participating students from Dayton High include Haley Drews, Yarah Funes-Cruz, Leanna Grahmann, Sidney Malone, Joslyn McBroome, Diane Davolos Salazar, and Gisela Gonzalez Uribe who all studied art with teacher Malaynia Wick.
Carson High’s participating students are Carla Huerta Aguilar, Aurellia Bailey, Tarrah Borrowman, Eren Bourcier, Rachel Bush, Lila Downs, Mayra Hernandez, Ana Paola, Canteneda Jimenez, Connor Leo, Cymbrie Steele, and Lydia Thornley. These students worked with teachers Alysia Kuniya and Karen McCraw.
Douglas High’s students include Selene Cruz, Jessica Hall, McKenna Jade, Marisa Martinez, Paloma Moon, Greg Quitano, Jordan Prather, Peter Rivera, Chana Rothschild, Sabrina Settelmeyer, Kristin Tirre, and Sydney Williams. Their teachers are Kelley Yost and Zoe Shorten.
The Initiative’s $500 Aim scholarship was awarded to Paloma Moon, Douglas High, for her Scarlett, pen & ink drawing. Graduating seniors continuing their education in the fall at a college or a technical school qualified for the scholarship. Thank you to our generous donor for supporting these students, their superb work, and CCAI.

This show is another in CCAI’s ongoing series of student exhibitions in the Brick.
The Capital City Arts Initiative is an artist-centered nonprofit organization committed to community engagement in contemporary visual arts through exhibitions, arts education programs, illustrated talks, artist residencies, and online activities.
