Student Art Exhibition at the Brick
The Capital City Arts Initiative [CCAI] announces its exhibition, Creative Spark, at the Community Development Building [the Brick], 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City. Thirty-two students from Carson, Dayton, Douglas, and Pioneer high schools have work in the exhibit. CCAI will host a reception for the artists on Wednesday, April 10, 5 – 6:30pm. The free exhibition is available to the public from April 1 – May 29, 2019, Mondays – Fridays, 8am – noon and 1-4pm. Creative Spark includes a wide variety of art media including ceramics, collage, drawing, painting, and photography that show the diversity of the students’ creativity.
The Pioneer High students include Seanna LeMaster and Monica Reyes. The Dayton High students are Karina Allen, Faith De Pasquale, Sandra Hidalgo, Roberto Mancilla, Devon Pickles, Felica-Grace Villa, and Eja Willis.
The Carson High students are Stephany Duarte Alvarado, Garrett Clampitt, Jane Fliegler, Haley Garver, Angel Gomez, Hana Cathryn Ikehara, Valeria Martinez, Daniela Solis, and Sarah Woods.
The Douglas High students include Stella Andersson, Mark Franzi, Jenna Fraser, Cole Funk, Litzy Gonzalez, Michelle Gower, Zoe Holt, Ethan Lee, Mateo Luri, Leo Martinez, Beck Neal, Shannon O’Connor, Emily Smuda, and Maya Wolery.
Motivation and creative inspiration for the students comes from their teachers: Kara Ferrin and Mike Malley at Carson High, Malaynia Wick at Dayton High, Paul Lorion at Pioneer High, and Rita Borselli, Zoe Shorten, and Kelley Yost at Douglas High.
With support from the D’Anneo Family, Cyndy & Steve Brenneman with Southwest Gas Corporation Foundation, and Initiative members, CCAI is delighted to announce that it provided three $500 Aim scholarships to high school artists/graduating seniors who are going on to further studies in the fall. The scholarships were awarded to Jane Fliegler, Carson High; Beck Neal, Douglas High; and Monica Reyes, Pioneer High. Maya Wolery, Douglas High, received an Honorable Mention for her drawing, Heaven Sent.
Sharon Rosse, CCAI Executive Director, said “Through working with the students, CCAI works to encourage their creativity and inspire their imaginations to help develop crucial work skills for the 21st century. The Initiative is delighted to provide the students with this exhibition opportunity and with scholarships to three deserving seniors.”
This show is another in CCAI’s ongoing series of student exhibitions in the Brick.
