Goal 2010!
Exhibition in the Courthouse Gallery
Bringing the World Cup festivities to Carson City, the Capital City Arts Initiative presents Goal 2010!, an exhibition of fine arts poster in the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. The seventeen limited edition posters go on view on Monday, June 7, with a reception on Friday, June 11 from five to seven p.m. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.
The CCAI Courthouse Gallery is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The exhibition runs through September 10. The gallery is located at 885 East Musser Street in Carson City. Admission is free and the public is cordially invited.
The artists featured in the portfolio were selected by the FIFA Art Committee who sought to include works by both famous and emerging artists from across the globe. Artists include South African William Kentridge, subject of a recent one-person exhibition at New York’s Museum of Modern Art and Julie Mehretu, Ethiopian-born artist featured in the prestigious 2004 Whitney Biennial and numerous exhibitions worldwide.
South Africa is the proud host of the World Cup, the first to take place in Africa. In conjunction with the exhibition, CCAI will be organizing workshops and docent tours at the gallery for soccer and arts enthusiasts of all ages. It will also feature posts on the World Cup and South Africa on its arts and culture blog [arts-initative.blogspot.com].
Consistent with all its programs, CCAI is collaborating with community partners on the project. Eric Masters, Carson High School soccer coach, comments “The Capital Soccer Club and all the region’s coaches and players are delighted to collaborate with CCAI to spread the word on this project that honors the World Cup.”
