FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

“How To Cross The Street”

The Capital City Arts Initiative [CCAI] is proud to present “How To Cross The Street” an exhibition at Western Nevada Community College’s Main Gallery from February 26 through March 23. The exhibition is part of CCAI’s “CAP,” a year-long focus on art in public. Working in an impressive range of media, featured artists are Jenna Montgomery, a printmaker from Seattle; Renoite Erik Burke, best known for his public works on area walls; and Elaine Tin Nyo, a New York-based conceptual artist. Local writer and artist Kris Vagner will “connect the dots” with wall signage and a catalog essay.

Jenna Montgomery worked with the following Carson High School art students, featured in the exhibition: Melody Champion | Kelsey Dockery | Natalie Godinez | Emily Watson | Destiny Casci | Philip Schroth | Samantha Shook | Elizabeth Gohr | Paige Miller | Hanna Fritz | Michelle Fleming | Jenna Duralde | Tommy Dudley | Molly Geiser | Erica Arbour | Dana Foltz | Kelli Brothers | Hannah Fluitt | Lauren Easby | Amanda Marie Crowder | Alyssa Perez | Jos Bates.

“How To Cross The Street” will also preview CAP projects scheduled to launch in the Carson area and on line later in the year.

A public reception will be held on Wednesday, February 28, 2007, at the gallery from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The Main Gallery is located in the Bristlecone Building at Western Nevada Community College, 2201 W. College Parkway, Carson City. Admission is free and the public is cordially invited.

CCAI Curator Jon Winet comments: “The title for the show references the ongoing discussion by artists about the challenges of bringing contemporary art into everyday life. We’re thrilled and honored to showcase artists that strive to create projects in the civic landscape. We're equally delighted to be working with Western Nevada Community College."

The Capital City Arts Initiative is an artist-centered organization committed to the encouragement and support of artists and the arts and culture of Carson City and the surrounding region through community building and public programs.
