FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Nevada Neighbors XV: "Learning to Share: Collaborative Art from an Artist's Perspective"

Nevada Neighbors, Capital City Arts Initiative’s lecture series on contemporary art, returns on Wednesday, September 13, 2006, with "Learning to Share: Collaborative Art from an Artist's Perspective" a lecture/presentation by Seattle artist Jennifer Montgomery.

The lecture is part of the launch of "CAP," the Capital City Arts Initiative Art In Public Program, a focus of its 2006-2007 season. During the year CAP will present a diverse range of art in public projects in northern Nevada and online.

The lecture will take place at the Carson City Library at 7:00 p.m. There will be a reception at the library prior to her talk beginning at 6:15 p.m. The library is located at 900 North Roop Street. The lecture and reception are free and the public is cordially invited.

"The talk will be a virtual tour of my studio," explains the artist, a printmaker and web designer. "I will discuss how print and web-based media influence my work. Both mediums have open-source foundations where collaboration thrives. Projects are shared and built upon."

Ms. Montgomery's talk will also trace the evolution of public art to include artist-initiated community-based projects. She comments: "Artists increasingly work in groups where ideas are central to creativity. Many projects depend on audience participation. Viewers are encouraged to ask questions, wander off the beaten path and sometimes become part of the project – to fully experience the art."

Ms. Montgomery career began at the age of nineteen at the Lower East Side Printshop in New York. She has degrees from the University of Washington and the University of Iowa. She will be a featured CCAI CAP artist this year.
