FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

"Invitation to a Dance: Participatory Art|Dance Performances"

As part of "CAP," CCAI's year long focus on art in public, the Carson City arts organization will present "Three Minutes of Intimacy," a new work by New York artist Elaine Tin Nyo.

CCAI will stage performances on Saturday, May 5 at the Carson City Harley-Davidson dealership from one to four p.m., and on Sunday, May 6 at the Greenhouse Garden Center from ten a.m. to one p.m. At the events, Ms. Tin Nyo will dance with passersby on a temporary dancefloor for three minutes. She will then lead three minutes of conversation with her dance partner.

The Harley-Davidson is located at 2749 N. Carson Street in Carson City; the Greenhouse Garden Center is at
2450 S. Curry Street, Carson City.

Ms. Tin Nyo, one of four CCAI CAP artists, visited northern Nevada in October to develop the project. Other CAP projects include a mural by Renoite Erik Burke on North Carson Street in Carson City and an upcoming print project by Seattle-based artist Jenna Montgomery.

CAP curator Jon Winet comments: "Our goal with the project is to explore the limitless possibilities for presenting art outside of traditional museum and gallery settings. With each project we hope to suggest new ways to animate our cultural landscape."

Elaine Tin Nyo is a conceptual artist with "a computer and kitchen in Harlem and a locker in Chelsea filled with dance shoes." Her work explores the structures of sensual experience and social interaction. Her subjects have been social structures including dinners, classrooms and ballroom dance. Her artwork has been presented nationally and internationally In 2000, Ms.Tin Nyo began studying Ballroom and Latin Dance full-time.

In addition to anticipated partners drawn from walk-in traffic, Ms. Tin Nyo is running the following announcement on Craig's List [reno.craigslist.org], the popular Internet-based bulletin board:

"Dance Partners Wanted

I will be available to dance in Carson City, Nevada on the first weekend of May 2007. Please tell anyone you know who might be interested. He can pick the song; he can pick the dance; "he" can even be a "she." And I will follow to the best of my ability for three minutes, after which I will lead a conversation for three minutes. I look forward to the exchange."

CCAI invites inquiries about the project. For further information, email threemins@gmail.com or visit the CCAI Web site at www.arts-initiative.org.
