Visual Arts Exhibition

Walter Daniels: Mining Series and Portraits" at CCAI’s Caffeine! Gallery

Capital City Arts Initiative's Caffeine! Gallery at Comma Coffee presents “Walter Daniels: Mining Series and Portraits" during the month of September. There will be a reception on Wednesday, September 7; from 5 to 6 p.m. Comma Coffee is located in Carson City's historic downtown at 312 Carson Street across from the State Legislature Building. The exhibition and reception are free and the public is cordially invited. The exhibition features narrative portraits of coal miners done in oil by local artist Walter Daniels. “I love to bring back the emotions of real people from moments in time that have passed by,” says Daniels.

Mr. Daniels, inspired at the age of 10 by an older cousin, began drawing cartoons and experimenting with charcoal. At the age of 13 he started painting. He continued to paint seriously on canvas through college. Thereafter, his painting was set aside as a hobby. In the 1970’s geology and mining attracted his attention. In this intimate atmosphere he struck it rich in his observations of the miners and the emotions they evoked. In the 1990’s he renewed his interest in painting.

Mr. Daniels is a member of the Nevada Artist Association and shows his work at several galleries in northern Nevada. He makes his home in Carson City, Nevada with his wife and children.

Caffeine! is a project sponsored by the Capital City Arts Initiative and Comma Coffee. Caffeine! presents month-long exhibitions of work by local artists.
