"Artists Collecting Artists: Treasures from the A. Leck Collection" at CCAI’s Caffeine! Gallery
Visual Arts Exhibition
Capital City Arts Initiative's Caffeine! Gallery at Comma Coffee launches the new year with "Artists Collecting Artists: Treasures from the A. Leck Collection," a compelling display of works selected from the collection of CCAI's Caffeine! Exhibition Coordinator Alyssa Leck. There will be a reception on Wednesday, January 4, from 5 to 6 p.m. The exhibition continues through the month.
Comma Coffee is located in Carson City's historic downtown at 312 Carson Street across from the State
Legislature Building. The exhibition and reception are free and the public is cordially invited.
The exhibition is the first of an "Artists Collecting Artists" series that highlights the strong tradition in northern Nevada of contemporary artists collecting the work of their peers. Ms. Leck, a photographer, comments: "I feel privileged to support my fellow artists by not only showing up to their openings
and engaging in deep conversations about art late into the night,
but also by purchasing their work."
Each of the six works in the exhbition represents a 'first' for collector/curator Ms. Leck, including the first art work she acquired at auction and the first presented to her as a gift. The artists included in the exhibition are:
Ahren Hertel, Sophie Sheppard,
Frederic Tchorbadjian, Laura Totten and
Sandra Ward.
Ms. Leck, 27, adds: "Collecting is part of a wonderful cycle in which art is conceived, created, contemplated, and collected."
Caffeine! is a project sponsored by the Capital City Arts Initiative and Comma Coffee. Caffeine! presents month-long exhibitions of work by local artists.
