Capital City Arts Initiative's Caffeine! Gallery at Comma Coffee presents “Beyond the Myth: Watercolors by Karen Kreyeski,” a vivid display of works inspired by insightful personal interpretations of the native myths of Ireland. There will be a reception on Wednesday, February 1, from 5 to 6 p.m. The exhibition continues through the month.

Comma Coffee is located in Carson City's historic downtown at 312 Carson Street across from the State Legislature Building. The exhibition and reception are free and the public is cordially invited.

Ms. Kreyeski is influenced by the rhythmic patterns of Art Nouveau and visual movement of expressionism. She comments, “My subject matter revolves around relationships, both those that we share with each other and those that we share with nature.”

During a recent journey to Ireland to reclaim her heritage, the artist researched native myths. The myth of the mystical white horse captured her attention. The horse can guide warriors to the ‘other side’ or mischievously mislead unsuspecting travelers. Ms. Kreyeski, a Virginia City high school art teacher, notes, “While painting my journey through this folklore, I discovered a path to the spiritual in human relationships.”

Caffeine! is a project sponsored by the Capital City Arts Initiative and Comma Coffee. Caffeine! presents month-long exhibitions of work by local artists.
