at CCAI Courthouse Gallery
The Capital City Arts Initiative presents an exhibition of Carole and William Hutchison’s XXL Variation III Kaleidoscope, at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery from May 25 – September 9, 2011. CCAI will host a reception for the artists on Wednesday, May 25 from 5 – 7pm. The Courthouse is located at 885 East Musser Street, Carson City. The exhibition and reception are free and the public is cordially invited.
The Hutchison Studio’s XXL Variation III kaleidoscope has eight 28” diameter interchangeable wheels. The artists created the brilliantly colored wheels using a variety of glass techniques including stained, etching, foiled fused, blown tube glass, tack-fused glass, full flat fused glass, plus flower transparencies and glass jewels. Gallery visitors are invited to sit and “drive” the kaleidoscope to change the images.
Through Hutchison Studio in Genoa, Nevada, Carole and William have worked with Sheryl Koch Kaleidoscopes for over 25 years. The development of the large kaleidoscope has been an ongoing part of the studio’s work. The artists consider the fractal images viewed through the scope to be a conceptual investigation of pattern. The Hutchison Studio showed XXL Variation II at Nellie Bly Gallery in Jerome, Arizona in 2001 and showed XXL Variation I in San Diego in 2000.
Carole and William Hutchison have taught a Fusing Glass summer workshop at Sierra Nevada College for eight years and Carole has taught a Stained Glass workshop at the J.C. Campbell Folk School in North Carolina for six years. Carole earned a BFA from Sierra Nevada College in 2000.
